FLORA & FAUXNA MURAL
Charcoal, Acrylic, Fabric and Wire
25′ x 50′
2010
In February of 2010 I returned to Djerassi Resident Artist Program to work on a large-scale installation.
This work is profoundly influenced by its architectural space and includes the sculptural addition of leaves cut from canvas, drawn with charcoal, and shaped with wire. It takes shape within different architectural spaces that are reinterpreted by drawing, painting, and adding sculptural elements directly on the wall. Unlike traditional murals, these "Wall Interventions" challenge some of the spatial boundaries of art.
I am interested in art’s relationship with the architecture around us, and I am powerfully moved by art’s capacity to transform an urban environment. My artwork often has an element of whimsy to it. This work playfully engages with the space, creating a sense of wonder and reshaping the architectural space.
