plant codex
Mural, QR codes, video and dry plants Oberpfälzer Künstlerhaus (Kebbel-Villa) Art residency, Germany
2022
Plant Codex is a project about communication between plants and humans. Do plants have something to say? And if so, how do we access their knowledge?
Medicinal plants are often hidden or overlooked in streets, forests, parks or natural environments. Using an encrypted language as a QR code as a metaphor, I offer a playful way to understand and learn from the medicine of the local flora in Upper Palatinate, Germany, where I enjoyed an art residency in the summer of 2022.. The public is encourage to find hidden QR codes along the mural and discover the ritualistic and medicinal plants that are endemic to the area.
This is a site-specific project in collaboration with Fronberg community member Anja Heinz, herbal pharmacists, and midwife Christine Wild, who shared their love and dedication to their favorite medicinal plants.
